23 Days Until Wrestlemania 28
In 2009, the build to Wrestlemania 25 was rather hit and miss. But one that many were looking forward to was the huge match between the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. In the 2007 WWE Royal Rumble, it came down to Undertaker and Michaels at the end, with Undertaker eliminating Shawn Michaels to win. The next year in the 2008 WWE Royal Rumble, Shawn Michaels and Undertaker started out the match, with Michaels eliminating the Undertaker eleventh in the Royal Rumble. It was only a matter of time before those two legends met at Wrestlemania and the stage was set at Wrestlemania 25.
Three men had thrown their name in the ring for the Undertaker's streak. Vladimir Koslov, John Bradshaw Layfield, and Shawn Michaels. Only one went out and that was Shawn Michaels to take on the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 25. Michaels won not be intimidated by the Undertaker, and in fact was cast as the mirror image of the Undertaker, wearing white, where the Undertaker wore black.
The match was perhaps one of the greatest in Wrestlemania history, with both men throwing everything at each other for nearly a half of an hour of some of the greatest action in Wrestlemania history. It might not have been the final match but Shawn Michaels against the Undertaker was the main event in the hearts and minds of the WWE Universe at Wrestlemania 25. An epic encounter that grows more special with each time, with the Undertaker pulling out one bone jarring Tombstone to win. This was the night where the Undertaker triumphed big time but Michaels had come closer than anyone else had to ending the winning streak.
Both men were spent, both men were out for several months after the show. And both men were going to be up for one more round at Wrestlemania 26. But that is tomorrow. Was the sequel better than the original? The Countdown to Wrestlemania 28 continues, April 1st 2012 in Miami Florida.
