Is the Miz Being Buried by WWE?

According to rumors and evidence show on WWE Television, the Miz might be getting buried due to his botch of previous weeks ago against R-Truth when he failed to catch him. On one sense, on the Internet, wrestling fans tend to throw around the term buried very loosely, when any wrestler in WWE tends to lose a string of matches at any given time. Then again, one might argue that the Miz's recent string of losses might mean that the shovel has long since been taken out of the shed. Then again, one might say the same thing to Dolph Ziggler and WWE's idea of a main event heel push is something that leaves a lot to desire. Then again, WWE has been a mostly babyface company most of the time.

Is the Miz Getting Buried By WWE Management?

The term buried is an interesting term. It can occur for any number of reasons. Most likely by botching a crucial spot or having a poor attitude backstage. Of course in WWE "a poor attitude" can mean any number of things. It can mean about what you would expect, being disrespectful, complaining about losing matches, thinking that you are above the company or it could be daring to get over on your own, breaking some unknown rule of locker room etiquette, or having an uneven number of buttons in your shirt.

There does seem to be a downward spiral for the Miz, ever since his reign as WWE Champion had concluded. It doesn't seem like the Miz is going to be the WWE Champion ever again, judging about what the past couple of months has to go. And obviously Miz and R-Truth both do have some sort of blame for the unfortunately low WWE Survivor Series buyrate. Which is not on the Rock and John Cena, but rather the poor way WWE promoted that match, with a weak storyline and just stupidity involving Twitter, but that's beside the point.

Still wrestlers in WWE get buried for the sins of the management. So was the Miz buried? We go right back to that question and this time, the insiders and the Internet wrestling fans might have somewhat of a point but there is one thing to remember.

Main event heels always have a certain shelf life in WWE. They get shuttled down to the midcard and in most cases out of the company. This has happened since Bruno Sammartino, since Bob Backlund, since Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, CM Punk, and more. The only three extended people to have heel runs in WWE, were Edge, Randy Orton, and Triple H. Triple H being the longest run, having two really long runs as top main event heel on top and there were circumstances for obvious reasons. And all three men were turned babyface. Edge got a pretty long run from 2006-2009 as a consistent main event heel, but for the most part, most heels in WWE after they have run their course, get right down the midcard. That is just the nature of WWE. Its not someone being buried, that's just how it is.

Heel champions never have had a long run with the exceptions as noted. Even back in the 1990s, Yokozuna had one of the longer runs as heel champion, but he dropped the title, had a revenge feud against the Undertaker, and after that, was a midcarder. Same with JBL after his long title run and same with Kurt Angle who bounced to midcard after losing the title back in 2001, only to go back to the main event as a babyface to feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin. That was not being buried, that's just how WWE does business. Heels are like monsters of the week on a television show, and they do get extended runs as champion, just like the Miz, JBL, Yokozuna, Angle, and others have, but all of those guys found themselves midcard fodder. High midcard perhaps but out of the title picture.

And the Miz has stuck around longer, due to injury issues with a good deal of the WWE roster. Still the Miz had his run with in the sun but he wouldn't have been much better off with his heat that he has with management, over being buried. Who knows, Miz is in the same spot Sheamus was in last year and Sheamus reinvented himself after a face turn. Some people are wondering if Miz is about to get wished the best in his future endeavors.

The final point is that WWE tests their superstars, by tearing them down. Some rise above the flames once again like Sheamus, like Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle back in the day, and to a lesser extent CM Punk. Others like Carlito, Mr. Kennedy, and MVP have failed the being buried by WWE test.

The Miz might have some heat backstage. He might be buried, but it also might be a test to see how he adapts. Handling being a star is one thing, but this is how WWE works with many examples throughout history. The ball is in the court of the Miz right now. He needs to run with it or fumble.
