13 Days Until Wrestlemania 28

The clock for Wrestlemania 28 is ticking down, just under two weeks ago from the show of shows, headlined by the Rock taking on John Cena. But before that is the WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony, the night before Wrestlemania and one of the storied competitors is going into the WWE Hall of Fame. In 2010, Edge returned and won the Royal Rumble, to challenge Chris Jericho. That is our match for tonight.

Chris Jericho vs. Edge at WWE Wrestlemania 26

SPEAR, SPEAR, SPEAR. Those were the words that echoed through the ears of Chris Jericho before his match with Edge at Wrestlemania 26. His former tag team partner, Edge had gone down with an injury. Jericho had taunted Edge, calling him a broken superstar. It seemed uncertain if Edge would be back and if he would gain some form of retribution over Chris Jericho. Yet when Edge won the Royal Rumble and when Jericho captured the World Heavyweight Championship, the stage was set.

The match as it was did seem to be very much an important bout in some ways and very much an afterthought in otherways. Wrestlemania 26 had epic encounters but while Edge vs. Chris Jericho was not the best match tonight, it was rather good. An intense back and forth encounter that took place between former tag team partners, that morphed into the most bitter of rivals, with an epic encounter that captivated the WWE Universe for what it was, even if it was at best the fourth most hyped match at Wrestlemania 26.

Edge was in the middle of a Wrestlemania curse of sorts, that he would not break until his very last match against Alberto Del Rio the following year at Wrestlemania 27. This was his third straight unsuccessful bid to retain or regain the World Heavyweight Championship. Edge gained a measure of retribution in the end to the glee of the WWE Universe. Chris Jericho may have remained World Heavyweight Champion on that night in Phoenix, but Edge had the last laugh. The result was a thunderous spear right through the announcer's table and the ribs of Chris Jericho cracking.

It is moments like this that make the Rated R Superstar one of the all time greats in WWE. Moments like these exist that make Edge the star of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2012 the night before Wrestlemania 28 in Miami Florida.
