The sands of time are winding down for Wrestlemania 28
. Fifteen days and counting until Wrestlemania 28. On that night, we'll see on April 1st 2012, finally for the entire world to see, the epic one on one match between John Cena and the Rock. It will truthfully be an end of an era, when the Undertaker takes on Triple H inside Hell in a Cell with Shawn Michaels being the guest referee. CM Punk puts his WWE Championship on the line against Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan defends his World Heavyweight Title against Sheamus, and so much more. You don't want to miss Wrestlemania 28, on April 1st 2012 on Pay Per View.
Edge gets inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame right before Wrestlemania 28. Over the next three days we're going to talk about some of Edge's greatest Wrestlemania matches. We've already discussed TLC II and the first Money in the Bank Match, but we're going to discuss Edge's matches with the Mick Foley, Undertaker, and Chris Jericho. Starting from the top, we are going to discuss Edge against Mick Foley one on one in a Hardcore Match at Wrestlemania 28.
15 Days Until WWE Wrestlemania 28 Edge vs Mick Foley at Wrestlemania 22
Mick Foley's role in professional wrestling is that of a pretty good star maker. He revived the Undertaker's career after years of mediocre feuds. He gave Stone Cold Steve Austin's first championship reign some teeth. He made the Rock great and he really put Triple H on the map as the top heel of the company. However, one name that he did help cement was that of Edge.
Edge captured the Money in the Bank briefcase and held onto it for close to about nine months, before he defeated John Cena for it at New Year's Revolution 2006. Then he lost it three weeks later at the Royal Rumble 2006, thus getting a mocking level as a transitional WWE Champion. Edge got a return match with Cena, with Mick Foley as a referee, but Edge failed to pick up the win, which he blamed Mick Foley for. The stage was set for a Hardcore Match at Wrestlemania 28, with Mick Foley taking on Edge. And WWE really did build this one up. Wrestlemania 22 was one of those Wrestlemanias that were overlooked in the grand scheme of things for WWE. However, it was a solid effort for WWE and one that sadly gets overlooked.
If one really does want to look at things, the Hardcore Match between Mick Foley and Edge was perhaps the last great pre-PG era Hardcore Match in WWE. It was a flashback of things that occurred and Mick Foley was the master, guarding himself against Edge's spear, with barbed wire under his flannel shirt. Lita even interfered, but she got Mr. Socko. I'm sure one would make a joke about Lita being used to have things stuck down her throat but we are far beyond that. The finish was sick and sadistic, with Edge hitting a brutal spear. A spear that sent Mick Foley crashing right through a table for the pin.
Edge picked up the win and it really cemented the Rated R Superstar as a player in World Wrestling Entertainment. He was on his way, but Edge got that added nudge to the top that all WWE Superstars need.
