40 Days Until Wrestlemania 28: Triple H vs. Sheamus from Wrestlemania 26

Forty days and counting to WWE Wrestlemania 28 inMiami featuring the huge match between the Rock and John Cena. The sun will beshining and the ring will be rocking for the showcase of the year. But that’snot the only match that we have on tap for Wrestlemania 28 as of last night. Daniel Bryan will defend the WorldHeavyweight Championship against the 2012 Royal Rumble winner, Sheamus. Itwill likely be opening things but hey at least it will get on the show thisyear. This is the first time Daniel Bryan has competed at Wrestlemania. Let’stake a look at the Wrestlemania debut of the Celtic Warrior, two years ago atWrestlemania 26, against Triple H

TripleH versus Sheamus, Wrestlemania 26

Sheamus really did come out ofnowhere towards the end of 2009, to become the WWE Championship. A couple ofmonths previously, he had been feuding with Goldust and Shelton Benjamin overon ECW. The plan as it seemed would be Sheamus to transition the belt rightonto Triple H, but those plans tended to fade. John Cena won the title in the2010 RAW Elimination Chamber match and then Batista won the title from JohnCena, which was a better WWE Championship match.

Still Sheamus and Triple H wasset up for a match at Wrestlemania 26. With the premise that Triple H saw a lotof himself in Sheamus. Also the storyline featured a callback to the battlebetween the Ultimate Warrior and Triple H, and Triple H’s Wrestlemania debut.Sheamus thankfully fared much better than Triple H did his first time out.

The match was likely one thatmany don’t remember. It was rather solid in its own right, even if it was inevitablethat Triple H won with the Pedigree. Sheamus would put Triple H back on theshelf and win the WWE Championship for a second time, and win King of the Ring. And then for months he would go off the rails, as King Sheamus had one of theworst win loss records of any King of the Ring. Even Billy Gunn and Mabel werelaughing at him behind his back. Then last year, Sheamus and Daniel Bryan gotbumped off the card.

This year, Sheamus vs. DanielBryan for the World Heavyweight Title. Hopefully it will be good, even if it islikely to be opening up the show.
