43 Days Until Wrestlemania 28: Mickie vs. Trish from WM 22

We are 43 daysand counting to the biggest show of the year, Wrestlemania 28, featuring theRock taking on John Cena in that match one year in the making on April 1st2012 and Sheamus receiving a WWE Championship or World Heavyweight Title Shot. With forty three days left, we wonder what the fate for the WWE Diva’sChampionship will be. The most obvious match would be Kharma against BethPhoenix but plans change. Today, let’s take a look at one of the best women’smatches in wrestling history, Mickie James against Trish Stratus from Wrestlemania22 in Chicago Illinois.

MickieJames vs. Trish Stratus-The Standard for Wrestlemania Women’s Matches

There have been a variety ofwomen’s matches throughout the entire history of Wrestlemania. Some were betterthan others. Many were just a token match to throw divas onto the crowd or toshowcase the Playboy covergirl of the year when WWE had their relationship withthe magazine in the years before the PG Era.

From the story and actionstandpoint, Mickie James against Trish Stratus might have been one of thebetter matches. Granted, its far from perfect. There is some major botchery inthis match for sure, towards the end. But overall as the entire package deal itis good. With Mickie James playing the role as the obsessed Trish Stratus fan, stalking her hero and then turning crazed.

The interesting thing is despiteMickie James technically being the heel, more fans identified with her. Takethat as you will. Still the match as it was, was one of the better efforts forthe women at Wrestlemania, with only the triple threat match between Trish Stratus,Jazz, and Lita and the match between Molly Holly and Victoria coming close.

Mickie James picked up the win.She would be the staple of the WWE women’s division for years to come, and herlast few months in the company might have ruffled many fans. Still we do havethis excellent match that has not been topped by the divas since. Perhaps if itdoes happen, Kharma and Beth Phoenix will break the mold.  We'll find out at Wrestlemania 28.
