55 Days until Wrestlemania 28: Bam Bam vs LT at Wrestlemania 11

We are on theroad to Wrestlemania 28, the countdown is merely fifty five days and countingto the grandest stage of them all, featuring the Rock taking on John Cena inthe long awaited match and Sheamus getting a championship match as a result ofwinning the Royal Rumble. Today, we talk about one of the more intriguingWrestlemania main events here on Super Bowl Sunday, featuring Lawrence Taylortaking on Bam Bam Bigelow.

LTvs. Bam Bam at Wrestlemania XI

In 1995, WWF was not really attheir highest point. They had just gotten off of the trial for Steroiddistribution and the era of Hulkamania was long over and the Attitude Era waslong over. They needed a big hook to go to Wrestlemania XI. The WWF Championshipmatch between Shawn Michaels and Diesel might have captured the imagination ofthe regular wrestling fan, but they would tune in and order the Pay Per Viewjust because of the fact it was the World Wrestling Federation.

Therefore, a hook was needed todraw in the average user and perhaps some outside eyeballs. It wall started inthe 1995 Royal Rumble, where Bam Bam Bigelow got into a confrontation withLawrence Taylor, formally of the New York Giants. It was a worked shoot, whichmeans a storyline that is made to look real. The stage was set for the bigWrestlemania XI encounter. First time, last time, and only time, Bam BamBigelow vs. Lawrence Taylor.

Bam Bam Bigelow had the MillionDollar Corporation in his corner, with manager Ted DiBiase, IRS, King KongBundy, Tatanka, Kama, and Nikolai Volkoff. Not to be outdone, Lawrence Taylorhad his all pro team of Ken Norton Jr, Chris Spielman, Rickey Jackson, CarlBanks, Reggie White, and last but certainly not least, future Four Horsemen andWCW United States Champion, Steve “Mongo” McMichael. The Football Players werethere to keep the Million Dollar Team at bay, as LT prepared to lock horns withBam Bam Bigelow, with Salt and Pepper telling us about LT was might good man.

What followed was the goldenstandard for non-wrestlers wrestling, as a pretty decent match. It was by nomeans a mind blowing encounter between Lawrence Taylor and Bam Bam Bigelow butit was a good one. Lawrence Taylor was trained by Kevin “Diesel” Nash(I’m suresome would make a joke) and he used a huge power bomb that set up a forearmshot from the top rope and Bam Bam was toppled. That would be the beginning ofthe end of the Beast from East in the WWF, although he had a brief careerrenaissance when he went to ECW in 1997 and some good moments in WCW.

Bam Bam Bigelow sadly passed awayin 2007 and Lawrence Taylor had his alleged drug and legal problems(whichreally does put him on more even ground to many in wrestling when one thinksabout it). Still it was a moment in Wrestlemania history.
