20 Days Until WWE Wrestlemania 28.
There have been many Women's matches in the history of Wrestlemania, but let's head to March 31st 1985, with the first time two women's sports entertainers stepped in the ring. Wendi Richter, with her manager Cyndi Lauper, one of the biggest names in pop music during that time, took on Lelani Kai, who had her manager, Fabulous Moolah, who held the Women's Champions for twenty years(or so the storyline)
Richter was the who ended the historic title reign of Moolah in the summer of 1984. It was a great moment and Richter had Cyndi Lauper, who was the biggest thing in music for a time during this period in her corner. However, Moolah, the devious schemer that she is, was not going to lie die without a fight. She was not going to let both Wendi Richter and Cyndi Lauper think that they had the better of her. Therefore a couple of months before Wrestlemania, Moolah managed Lelani Kai to the WWF Women's Championship, defeating Wendi Richter. It seemed as if Moolah had found the right girl, catching Richter right off guard but the stage was set for the return match at the first ever Wrestlemania. Wendi Richter with Cyndi Lauper in her corner took on Lelani Kai with Moolah in her corner.
Now really women's matches have been second from the top at Wrestlemania but they have been glorified pop corn matches. This encounter however was about on the level of the main event, having Cyndi Lauper to thank in part, although Wendi Richter was no slouch in the drawing departmert. With Lauper in her corner, Wendi Richter regained the World Wrestling Federation Women's Title over Moolah's chosen champion.Kai would return ten years later, and Richter on the other hand, would have to deal with her own political nightmare, which actually would be the template for the Montreal Screwjob nearly twelve years later.
Still Cyndi Lauper and Wendi Richter were quite a duo, and a winning combination in the first women's match in Wrestlemania history. Wrestlemania 28 is only twenty days away April 1st 2012 in Miami, don't you dare miss it.
