The Hulk Hogan Sex Tape: A Sad Reminder of the Reality of Fame

I'll be honest with you, and say this right now. I didn't really want to talk about the sex tape that leaked about Hulk Hogan. To me, that would prove that one of the best known wrestlers of all time, had finally crossed the utter final frontier into joke and celebrity train wreck. Over the years, Hogan's misfortunes have been well documented. Whether you were a fan or not of him, it is difficult not to feel any sympathy for the guy.

According to the man himself,  Hogan doesn't know who the brunette in the sex tape is. In fact, it may have been during a time in his life where he was so messed up with everything that was going on, with his son Nick in that accident, the divorce, and everything. As many times as Hulk Hogan has told some rather tall tales in his day, I'm kind of inclined to believe him that he was messed up. Because you do kind of have to be messed up not to know that you are being filmed doing such a deed.

And the fact that a sex tape exists out there, whether no fan ever sees it or not and Hogan has threatened a lawsuit to prevent it from getting out on the market, it is hard to look at this beloved icon of professional wrestling, a hero of man people's childhoods the same way again. A sobering feeling came across me when I had seen the news a week ago. Hogan's life has spiraled downwards over the past number of years. It is hard to believe this was the same man that was the pop culture icon of the 1980s and 1990s, a man who was the key force behind two boom periods, with the Rock N Wrestling and the NWO over in WCW.

Wrestling is far from a happy business. The deaths of countless superstars prove that point. But it's not just wrestling, it is celebrity culture in its nature. Celebrities make mistakes just like you and I. Celebrities do things that are not in their best interests. And during the time where Hogan suspects that the torrid tape was filmed, was during one of the absolute lowest points of his life.

And to dig the knife deeper, Linda, Hogan's ex-wife, wants to file an injunction to get the tape, because she suspects that it was done when they were married. Talk about kicking a guy when he is down. Its bad enough that she coasted off of a nice lifestyle for years, that she got more money than she ever deserved in the divorce settlement.

Still we know a Hulk Hogan sex tape exists. And when that genie is out of the bottle, it is never going back in. No one will ever look at Hulk Hogan in the same way twice again. It is truthfully a tragedy of a different kind. And I'm sure some people will be salivating at the idea of seeing Hulk Hogan in action in another way. The Internet after all has all sorts.

A childhood icon for many, ruined by many by this I'm sure.
