32 Days Until Wrestlemania 28: Matt vs. Jeff

The clock isticking down until WWE Wrestlemania 28, thirtytwo days and counting. April 1st 2012 in Miami Florida, we alreadyknow about the historic battle between John Cena and the Rock, the match a yearin a making. A return match from last year at Wrestlemania 27, this time insideHell in a Cell, where the Undertaker puts his Wrestlemania winning streak onthe line against Triple H. We will find out who the best in the world is whenCM Punk defends the WWE Championship against Chris Jericho. And also the WorldHeavyweight Championship is on the line when Daniel Bryan defends the 2012Royal Rumble winner Sheamus.

Spinning the random Wrestlemaniaroulette wheel, we land on Wrestlemania 25. What a messed up card that was. This was during that time where WWE really seemed to have absolutely no semblanceof a plan whatsoever.  And this nextmatch really does prove it in a way, given some of the circumstances behind it.Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy, April 5th 2009, from Houston Texas atWrestlemania 25.

BrotherlyShowdown

First of all, Christian wassupposed to return to WWE. There was a series of mysterious attacks on JeffHardy, where Edge seemed to benefit. Logically speaking, Christian appeared tobe the culprit. However, WWE was going through one of their little, “screw theInternet for existing” phases, so they decide to switch things up, by puttingChristian on ECW and moving Matt Hardy into the culprit.

To say WWE had a plan would begiving them too much credit. It seemed to anyone with a few functioning braincells that Edge and Christian vs. Matt and Jeff seemed to be a likely plan whenthe storyline was maintained. So obviously, Matt Hardy was made the culprit.Throwing out the fact that Matt Hardy helped his own hated rival Edge, fine, itwill lead to a good match.

WWE decided to infer that MattHardy started the fire that killed Jeff Hardy’s dog.

I’m beginning to see why MattHardy is the way he is. With storylines like this. And obviously given some ofthe…mental quality of the Hardy Boyz fans, you were having them screaming forMatt’s head for daring to do anything to Jeff.

The match as it was, was actuallypretty good, even if the storyline surrounding it was not really so much so.Matt Hardy scored the win, which was intriguing, given that they were settingup Jeff Hardy for his most lucrative feud yet, and in 2009, Jeff Hardy was numbertwo babyface behind John Cena. Triple H was stale and Michaels and Taker wereboth part time. Matt Hardy wins this Extreme Rules Match with the Twist of Fateand goes onto not do much of anything of note, well in WWE at least. Jeff Hardyhad the awesome feud with CM Punk before he left.

You just wonder what would havehappened if WWE didn’t feel the need to smite the Internet wrestling fans.

Of course that was not the bestbrother vs. brother match. Stay tuned.
